Adopt Me Rarities and Their New 2026 Colors
Adopt Me has five rarities: common, uncommon, rare, ultra-rare and legendary. Since April 2026 they come in new colors — common is grey, uncommon green, rare blue, ultra-rare purple and legendary orange.

The five rarities and their colors
Every pet and almost every item has a rarity: food, vehicles, toys, strollers, gifts, pet wear, stickers. You see it as a colored tag in your inventory.
| Rarity | Color since April 2026 | Color before April 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Common | grey | blue |
| Uncommon | green | purple |
| Rare | blue | green |
| Ultra-Rare | purple | red |
| Legendary | orange | black |
There's also an Event rarity for temporary pets that were later removed from inventories. There have been two: Scoob and Pumpkin.
What changed in 2026
In April 2026 the developers recolored the rarity tags. The colors didn't just change — they swapped places. Green used to mean rare and now means uncommon; blue used to mean common and now means rare. Legendary went from black to orange.
Long-time players took it badly, and so did we. The Reddit thread "I hate what they did to the rarities" got around 1,560 upvotes and 359 comments, most of them missing the old colors. Six months later, in October 2026, the fan news account @AMNews_Updates asked whether people had gotten used to them — and the replies were still asking for the old set back.
The trap the recolor creates
We spent years reading a green tag as rare. Now green is uncommon, one step lower. If you're back after a break, read the rarity name, not the color — especially in a trade window when someone throws you a quick offer.
What rarity changes in the game
Rarity isn't just a color. It affects three things.
How long a pet takes to grow. The rarer the pet, the more tasks (needs) it takes from Newborn to Full Grown:
| Rarity | Tasks to Full Grown |
|---|---|
| Common | 25 |
| Uncommon | 36 |
| Rare | 54 |
| Ultra-Rare | 107 |
| Legendary | 183 |
These numbers apply since September 12, 2025; before that it took longer, from 56 for commons to 275 for legendaries. A neon needs four Full Grown pets, so a legendary neon takes 732 tasks. The neon calculator turns that into time.
Whether you need a license. Ultra-rare and legendary items can only be traded with a Trade License, earned by passing the test at the Safety Hub. More in How to Get the Trade License in Adopt Me — Test Answers.
Hatch odds. In the Fairytale Egg, for example: 35% common, 30% uncommon, 20% rare, 12% ultra-rare and only 3% legendary.
Age-up rewards. Every time a pet reaches its next age, the game hands out a reward: food, Bucks, potions, gifts, eggs. The rarer and older the pet, the better the odds of a rare reward. A legendary takes longer to raise, but it pays out better on the way.
Items have their own rarity
An item's rarity says even less than a pet's. The Fly and Ride Potions are legendary, while the Trade License — which you need to trade any legendary at all — is a common. Check an item's value in the table, not the color of its tag.
How rarity relates to value
There's a link, but it's weaker than it looks. Rarity tells you how rarely a pet hatched from its egg. Value tells you what people pay for it now. Between the two sit demand and how many of that pet are left in the game.
A real example. The Cow is only a rare, but the Farm Egg left the game and no new cows appear. The Dragonfly is a legendary, yet it still hatches from the Cracked, Pet and Royal Eggs. Compare: Cow is 12.1, Dragonfly is 0.24.
We'd check rarity last. First: has the pet left the game? Then its value in value list, then its potions (FR or none). The full picture of how value works is in How Adopt Me Values Work and Why Value Sites Disagree.

Questions
What are the rarities in Adopt Me?
Five main ones: common, uncommon, rare, ultra-rare and legendary. There's also an Event rarity for temporary pets that were later removed from inventories, like Scoob.
What are the new rarity colors in Adopt Me?
Common is grey, uncommon green, rare blue, ultra-rare purple and legendary orange. Before April 2026 they were blue, purple, green, red and black.
Is a legendary always worth more?
No. Rarity sets the hatch chance and how long a pet takes to grow; value comes from demand and how many are left in the game. The rare Cow from the retired Farm Egg is worth many times more than the legendary Dragonfly, which still hatches from eggs today.
Do I need a license to trade legendaries?
Yes. Ultra-rare and legendary items can only be traded with a Trade License, which you get by passing the test at the Safety Hub.
How many tasks does a legendary need to grow up?
183 tasks (needs). A common needs 25, an uncommon 36, a rare 54 and an ultra-rare 107.
