Returning to Adopt Me After a Year or Two: What Your Old Pets Are Worth

Updated

Your pets are still there, and plenty of the old ones went retired while you were away, which means trading is now the only way to get them. Don't trade anything on day one: value your inventory in inventory value calculator first, because values and the trading system itself have both changed.

Some of your old pets may be worth a lot more now

A retired pet is one the game doesn't hand out anymore: its egg got swapped out or its event ended. No new copies appear, so the only ways to get one are trading or hatching an old egg somebody held on to.

If you played in 2019–2020, odds are you own at least one of these:

Pet Where it came from Released Value now
Shadow Dragon Halloween 2019, 1,000 Robux Oct 18, 2019 214
Bat Dragon Halloween 2019, 180,000 Candy Oct 2019 316
Evil Unicorn Halloween 2019, final week Oct 25, 2019 36.9
Arctic Reindeer Christmas 2019 Dec 14, 2019 17.7
Frost Dragon Winter 2019 event, 1,000 Robux Dec 20, 2019 100
Giraffe Safari Egg Jul 5, 2019 147
Parrot Jungle Egg Aug 31, 2019 61.9
Owl and Crow Farm Egg Nov 22, 2019 77.1 and 56.2
Turtle and Kangaroo Aussie Egg Feb 29, 2020 8.77 and 6.65

The values in this table update every day. Treat them as a starting point for negotiating, not a price anyone owes you.

The original egg pets moved to the Retired Egg

On July 21, 2022 the Cracked, Pet and Royal Eggs got new pets. The originals, including Dragon, Unicorn, Red Panda and Shiba Inu, moved into the Retired Egg. It's sold in the Nursery's VIP room for 600 Bucks, with a 3% legendary chance.

Don't rush to hatch old eggs

Old eggs in your inventory still hatch. Owl and Crow, for example, still come only from a leftover Farm Egg or a trade. Before you hatch one, check what the egg itself trades for and decide whether the gamble is worth it: a Farm Egg rolls a legendary 3% of the time, and an Owl 1.5%.

What retired while you were gone

If your break covered 2026, here's what became trade-only:

  • February 28: the Aztec Egg, replaced by the Endangered Egg;
  • August 29: the Endangered Egg, replaced by the Fairytale Egg;
  • September 11: the Golden and Diamond Eggs from Star Rewards. Their pets moved into the new Gemstone Egg, except Diamond Unicorn, which left the game;
  • November 2: the Halloween 2026 pets and items.

Every event's pets also retired when the event ended. The full list is in Retired Pets and Eggs in Adopt Me — Everything That Left in 2026.

How to value an old inventory before your first trade

Returning players mostly get burned the same way: they remember rarity, not value. The classic is giving up a common Chicken for an uncommon Canadian Goose because "uncommon is better." That chicken came from the 2019 Farm Egg and is retired, so the in-game rarity tells you nothing here.

Go in this order:

  1. Gather everything in one place. Since August 21, 2026 the game has Storage outside your backpack, with up to 25 tabs. Check both.
  2. Note each pet's variant. Normal, neon or mega neon, plus potions: Fly, Ride or both (FR). Age barely moves value, potions move it a lot.
  3. Add it all up in inventory value calculator. Enter your pets with their variants and get a total. Check single pets in value list.
  4. Don't take quick offers in your first week. See what your pets get in the Trading Hub and run every offer through the trade calculator.

We'd skip the first offers entirely. Until you know values, a generous-looking offer can easily be an L.

Keep old pets away from the Pet Releaser

Since September 12, 2025 the Nursery has a Pet Releaser: you release pets for tickets and spend tickets on Basic and Crystal Eggs. A released pet is gone forever, no undo. A legendary is worth 900 tickets, a neon legendary 18,000. Compare that with what the pet trades for before you let it go.

What changed in trading and the game

These are the changes returning players notice first:

Change Since What it means for you
Trade License Nov 5, 2020 needed to trade ultra-rares and legendaries; earned by passing a test in the Safety Hub
18 trade slots May 5, 2023 it used to be 4, then 9
Fewer tasks to grow pets Sep 12, 2025 a legendary needs 183 tasks instead of 275
Age check for chat Jan 2026 no check, no chat; you only talk with nearby age groups
Backpack viewing in trades Jan 14, 2026 ask to see someone's inventory and suggest items right in the window
New rarity colors Apr 2026 common gray, uncommon green, rare blue, ultra-rare purple, legendary orange
Trading Hub Jul 31, 2026 listings and offers from every server, 100 Bucks per listing
New Star Rewards Sep 11, 2026 Stars now buy Gemstone and Royal Fairytale Eggs

If the new rarity colors throw you off, old and new are compared in Adopt Me Rarities and Their New 2026 Colors. How the Trading Hub works, and why "Decline didn't work," is in Adopt Me Trading Servers, Korean Servers and the Trading Hub.

If your pets are missing

Check Storage first, since some items may have landed there. Then make sure you're on the same account you used to play on.

If pets left through trades, your Trade License history shows them, but only for the last 30 days. If the account was hacked recently, press Report on each of those trades. Change your Roblox password and turn on two-step verification first; the rest is in Adopt Me Scams in 2026: Every Trick and How to Avoid It.

Questions

Are my old Adopt Me pets worth anything?

Often, yes. Pets from retired eggs and 2019–2020 events, like Shadow Dragon, Frost Dragon, Owl and Turtle, can now only be traded for. Check their current value in the value list and the inventory calculator.

What does retired mean in Adopt Me?

The game no longer gives that pet out, because its egg was replaced or its event ended. You can only trade for it or hatch it from an old egg someone kept.

Can I still hatch old eggs in Adopt Me?

Yes, old eggs in your inventory still hatch. Owl and Crow, for example, still come only from leftover Farm Eggs or trades. Check what the unhatched egg trades for before you hatch it.

My pets are missing after I came back. Where did they go?

Check Storage first: since August 21, 2026 part of your inventory can live there instead of your backpack. If they're nowhere, open your trade history with the Trade License, keeping in mind it only shows the last 30 days.

What changed in Adopt Me trading?

The Trading Hub launched on July 31, 2026 for trading across all servers, backpack viewing in trades arrived on January 14, 2026, and Roblox chat now requires an age check. Rarity colors changed in April 2026 too.
